10/11/25
played with: Tristan Jacob Sam Charlotte
what we did: directed montage by Michael
notables: ‘hark! ahem, scuse me, hark!’ and I was a rat named big gary.
how I felt: fine, easy in n out I had a good time. very chaotic bc we only had 12 mins.
10/8/25
played with: mischief
what we did: rehearsal, focused on stage combat
notables: I got to throw a martini in someone’s face and slap them with leather gloves as a foppish little western landowner type. very fun.
how I felt: thinking about violence as a tool of escalation and what place it has in our work together. many convos were had, not sure where I stand totally. I think if we weren’t attempting to do comedy it would be different.
10/7/26
played with: Tom n Cole
What we did: silly time
notables: narwhalicus kink, friend of a man’s dead grandmother whose gimp follows him everywhere.
how i felt: lots of dissolving into giggles. Was nice!
10/4/25
played with: imposters society
what we did: montage
notables: mixup of kid wanting a franz Ferdinand costume and Michael and I thinking they wanted it related to the band, James came out asked where his exploded guy costume was, we did sitcom style ‘oh NOW I get it’. only good bit of the set.
how I felt: whatever!
9/23/25
played with: Sam, cole, tom
what we did: fuckaround time
notables: cum room :(
how I felt: fine! fun session, I was super tired from driving that morning back from pittsburgh so I wasn't quite as present as I should've been.
9/21/25
played with: mischief, cam, cast of duos
what we did: bat was first then I did ten minutes of montage with cam and then ten minute mashup
notables: good scene where I started with ‘are you in a solutions oriented mode or would you prefer to vent’. raccoon and possum pledging themselves to Jesus Christ right before they were crushed by the trash compactor.
how I felt: not pleased with the bat. blargh. I think I stepped all over everyone. cam and I had a good time we always play stupid bullshit scenes or really good grounded slow scenes and that’s it. glad she asked me on. no comment on the mashup.
9/20/25
played with: comedy court cast
what we did: comedy court. courtroom show about a petty squabble
notables: me: “there’s a djinn living under the Brooklyn bridge” also me: “I was a smoothie consultant for Lindsey Lohan”
how I felt: set itself felt pretty disjointed and chaotic but I felt pleased with how I did! someone complimented me deeply by saying “I didn’t know you could do a chris fleming character out of nowhere” which I take as the highest praise. this format is weird because there’s only one witness at a time and they can build off each other but they don’t have to. we were pretty unrelated to each other and I think that was a little unhelpful. I wish they’d just put me on this cast full time tbh but I’m fine being a pinch hitter.
9/19/25
played with: this improvised life cast
what we did: this improvised life, an Armando show using two featured storytellers
notables: slowly and methodically cutting the drapes with scissors from his junk drawer as my father argues with my mother over custody. “First time using a urinal!”
how I felt: eh. I did my part but didn’t particularly have fun. good to see Alex though.
9/18/25
played with: most of mischief
what we did: practiced for the show on Sunday (we’re doing a bat which is essentially a radio play, all the lights get turned off) that I didn’t think I was going to be able to do but now I am!
notables: Charlotte as my uncle and me as a little boy walking through the park as I ask him to name bird calls, everyone makes stupid noises and I start asking what bird the dog barking sound is, the guy walking the dog, etc. escalates to an escaped t rex. scene in an Antarctic research station where I ate someone’s office food, our coach gave me the note “you’re dying” in the sense that I was supposed to be freezing but I took it very literally in the moment and started asking if anyone else was coughing up blood and making sounds as my fingernails fell off one by one. ALMOST FORGOT one of the first scenes we did was supposed to be a spy movie genre and someone made clip clop sounds to denote an approaching security guard and I immediately started making horse noises which meant that we had to have someone say ‘Aw man security guard horse I love you so much and I’m so glad we work together. I hope there’s no one lurking in the shadows at the art museum!’ and then the two spies disguised themselves in a sexy lady horse costume and tranqd the horse. So stupid.
how I felt: such a weird format but I felt really free and loose! It’s fun to do stuff that would feel weird to get into physically or is impossible even but we just have to narrate it and it’s real here. curious about how the show will be received.
9/16/24
played with: cole, tom, sam
what we did: fuckaround central
notables: I told a story about saint wilgefortis and we did a set about a cool ass bearded lady training a girl to counter assassinate the president’s assassin who was being trained by a knife thrower named sergei. and they were siblings of course.
how i felt: :) another good set! not technically that sound (moments where we got a bit lost in the weeds) but very joyful.
9/14/25
played with: cole and travis
what we did: chain gang, which is just a living room but in the reverse order
notables: travis's physicality as my wizard boss while I as a little minion creature thing asked for dental, me telling the story of the guy with a bowler hat and rat tail that the most beautiful woman I had ever seen called daddy when I worked at the medieval faire, cole's squire voice when I attempted to work my way up the ranks at medieval times.
how I felt: SO good. I love these boys to bits, they made it so easy! we played as opposed to performed, it felt. I had so much fun. Travis needs to be in scenes with me forever all the time. I hope we leverage this into something we do more often.
9/13/25
played with: fun bus
what we did: a directed montage where the guy who owns the theater was on the god mic giving us notes.
notables: *course singsong voice* do not eat the pizza crust or there will be things in your blood! two dudes very nearly kissed.
how I felt: very pleased. though our time was too short. I kept up and played what I needed to play.
9/10/25
played with: luke, brandon, rob
what we did: mischief off week rehearsal. montages and 2 harolds
notables: prudish librarian vs overly horny librarian (had to sit at a separate table across the restaurant during her date), job where you were promoted based on how many push ups you can do.
how I felt: meh. there wasn’t a moment where I felt like we all clicked in. I think the venue and being tired can really impact that however.
9/9/25
played with: Cole and Tom
what we did: 90 minutes of fuckaround, the usual
notables: a series of butlers attending the butler above them, eventually degenerating into lumps of flesh. they unionized. forced labor camp at bloomingdale’s when you break something in their store (that’s where they get their employees from). lots of slapping. circus clown forced to go undercover as a rodeo clown trying to bust a bull semen smuggling ring.
how I felt: playing with Cole and Tom is truly like eating dessert the whole time, but I never get sick of it. we just do the dumbest funniest thing we can think of and don’t worry about being judged. I always feel lighter and much happier with improv as a whole when I leave.
9/6/25
played with: imposters society
what we did: 15 minute set for the monthly variety show. montage.
notables: kid went to college because he didn’t have any hair on his balls and his friend told him that’s what they do in college.
how I felt: meh. imposters society is always a grab bag of people that don’t rehearse together so I’m mostly trying to keep my head above water. I almost never hop in as much as I should bc I get weird about stepping on people’s toes. some of the play felt like cheap shots but I wasn’t to blame so whatever. did some fun physical comedy right at the end though! unusual for me.
9/3/25
played with: mischief
what we did: coached practice. ran two harolds (kind of) and did one ten minute get over yourselves harold.
notables: played one scene entirely on the floor with Charlotte and Lauren where we all felt too tired from starting a cross country road trip to finish it and agreed that we'd all just lie and say we went to california. luke and brandon played brothers trying to rob a house but brandon's character kept getting too excited. 'grab the dog and run' was the very good edit line.
how I felt: bad! we cannot crack this fucking harold for the life of me. I don't know what the problem is (I know what the problems are and they are manifold). I really, really want this team to work. I want to learn to use this form to my advantage. everyone needs to fuckin relax and stop worrying about whether the form is going to work. myself especially. new coach is extremely verbose and prescriptive which can be a benefit and a detriment. feels like we've been set up to fail.
8/27/35
played with: lauren, rob, nick
what we did: no house team rehearsal this week so we wanted to get some reps in and work on what we've been taught during rehearsal. montages focusing on non-sweep edits to start scenes, eventually ran a Harold without group games or an opening.
notables: nick got down on one knee while holding a seven eleven exclusive koozie and lauren's character immediately interpreted it as a proposal, slipping the koozie around her hand. I was at one point little tony, a child enforcer extorting grown men for labubus by breaking their shins.
how I felt: solid. was great to play with edits again. I think everyone on the team just needs to relax into each other, and quality time like this is how we do that. only then can we make good art! being afraid of doing it wrong or pissing off the group is stopping us before we start.
8/26/25
played with: cole and tom
what we did: casual hour or so of scene work and chatting, dipping in and out when we felt like it
notables: "mystery kids" cartoon special run of scenes where a bunch of demons tried to kill people at a high school prom. included mystery kids torturing a principal, demon with a hook hand falling in love with a woman with a hook hand. commercial breaks where I played john kellogg advertising his anti masturbation graham crackers. dissolved into giggles more than once. later run of scenes involved John McCain making gorilla noises in the woods.
how I felt: good! I so rarely do improv that I find deeply funny in a non intellectual way, and even though what we were doing wasn't elegant we laughed so much and really entertained ourselves. felt good about our ability to bring things back and weave in storylines.
